Harassment Volunteer Network
The University encourages individuals to solve issues informally as this is often the quickest and most effective method of dealing with harassment or bullying.
The Harassment Volunteer Network can provide support and guidance to staff and students throughout the informal process.
The Volunteer Harassment Advisers role is to:
- provide a confidential, as appropriate, listening service for staff or students who think they may be bullied or harassed.
- facilitate informal resolution in cases of harassment in line with the University's Dignity at Work and Study Policy.
- provide guidance, assistance and advice on the courses of action available.
- identify, and refer, serious allegations to the appropriate University authority.
The Volunteer Harassment Advisers role is NOT to:
- undertake any investigations.
- represent or accompany individuals at the formal stage of the process.
- decide whether the bahaviour/conduct or an individual(s) constitutes harassment.
Conflict of Interest
There are scenarios where the Volunteer Harassment Adviser would suggest you approach another member of the Harassment Volunteer Network in order to avoid any potential conflict of interest. These include;
- The individual contacting the Volunteer Harassment Adviser studies or works in the same School/Research Institute/Service as the Volunteer Harassment Adviser.
- The Volunteer Harassment Adviser has a close working relationship with a student or staff member who is accused.
- If two individuals approach the Volunteer Harassment Adviser about the same case.
