- A senior academic at the University of Lancaster has be issued with a written warning as he breached the Data Protection Act by providing personal information about a student to his mother following a complaint from the mother concerning her son's tuition. [15 May 2008]
- The Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill has now created new sanctions that the UK Information Commissioner, as regulator of the Data Protection Act, can impose on organisations that deliberately or recklessly or persistently commit serious breaches of the Data Protection Act. The sanctions may include substantial fines. Previously the Information Commissioner only had powers to issue an Enforcement Notice. [8 May 2008]
