The Purpose or Reason for Processing

The 2nd Principle of the DPA requires that the collection and processing of personal data must be associated with a reason or purpose. The mandatory Notification with the Information Commissioner sets out the scope of the personal data, the scope of the processing itself, the source of the personal data, and the potential recipients of the personal data. Some processing may be required to meet a statutory obligation.

The purpose for which student personal data is processed is detailed in the Fees and General Information for Students section of the University Calendar.

See seperate entries in this A to Z Guide on the rules for processing personal data, the Principles of the DPA, Notification, and the Information Commissioner.
