The UK Information Commissioner

The UK Information Commissioner enforces and oversees the Data Protection Act 1998, the UK-wide aspects of both the UK Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Environmental Information Regulations 2004, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations, and the Telecommunications Regulations. The Commissioner is a UK independent supervisory authority reporting directly to the UK Parliament and has both an international and national role.

The UK Information Commissioner is completely distinct from the Scottish Information Commissioner - The latter is responsible for the enforcement of compliance with the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 and the Environmental Information [Scotland] Regulations 2004.
