Support Services
Referral to Other Services.
Our service is part of a network of support services within the University. We refer students to other services including:
- Chaplaincy;
- Counselling & Psychological Services;
- Careers Service;
- Library;
- IT Services;
- Student Learning Service.
We also work closely with external support agencies in supporting our students on course.
The library offers a range of support services for disabled students. These include: extended loans, private study facilities, a fetching and carrying service, help with the catalogue system, and with locating books and journals, where necessary.
Detailed information of the range of services provided within the University Library for students with disabilities is available from our Library Disability Co-ordinator:

Refuge points in the Main Library in the event of Fire.
The nearest refuge point in relation to room 529 (Assistive Technology Centre) - is in the lift lobby [this is the Central lift lobby onto which the room opens]. This has a telephone and notices indicating what to do in an emergency. There is another refuge on this level, a bit further away in the lobby by tower 5.
Disabled library users requiring assistance in the event of a fire evacuation may of course also use other parts of the library, and other refuge points are available as follows:
- Central lift lobbies - refuges on levels 4 to 11 inclusive.
- The tower 5 lobbies (the lobbies between lifts/stairwell and the main floor) - refuge points on levels 4 to 12
Levels 2 and 3 do not have refuges as they both have egress routes that are suitable for people who cannot use stairs. Level 2 is the main entrance level, while level 3 has 2 fire exits of this type in the annexe (one of them being adjacent to the disabled study rooms).
