Managing performance data and documentation

This seminar took place on Thursday 17th February 2011, as part of the JISC Incremental project.

The event brought together researchers and performers working in the live and performing arts across the UK, to inspire and provide guidance for better management of their research data.

The morning speakers were audio recorded so their case studies could be heard by people who couldn't attend.  Slides (some with audio) are available below.  Short videos were also created.

In the morning session, a panel of researchers and artists from across the UK shared inspirational case studies about how they tackled their data management challenges.

  • Stephen Gray, University of Bristol, The CAiRO Project – data management training for the live and ephemeral arts
  • Adrian Howells, theatre maker and University of Glasgow Honorary Research Fellow, Gathering and managing personal or sensitive data in performance context

In the afternoon, experts from the University of Glasgow provided guidance on varied data types used in the live and performing arts, and raised awareness of specific support available for researchers and students at the University.

  • Neil McDermott, Resource Development Officer, Music,  Managing musical performance data and documentation
  • Michael McCann, IT Officer Theatre, Film and Television Studies, Data management support for TFTS researchers
  • Matt Barr, Developer, HATII, Providing technical support during research projects

  • Prof. Andrew Prescott, ArtsLab and support for College of Arts researchers
