Where can I deposit research outputs?

Research outputs can be safely deposited in a repository, which stores, maintains, and disseminates digital materials for a given community.

The University of Glasgow has an institutional repository called Enlighten, which accepts peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings and other published material produced by staff in the University.

Subject-based repositories, such as PubMed, and data centres are also able to receive research outputs such as publications, reports, images or even datasets.

Do I have to deposit in Enlighten, the University repository?

The University’s Publications Policy requires all staff research publications produced after 22 September 2008 to be deposited within Enlighten.  You are not required to deposit earlier publications unless you want to.

What are the benefits of depositing?

Depositing in Enlighten raises your research profile by having your publications more widely accessible both within the University and throughout the world.  You will also be complying with the open access policies of many funding councils.

The Enlighten webpages have a more detailed list of the benefits of deposit for researchers, the University and wider society.

How do I go about depositing a document?

Publications can be deposited directly online, or you can email the document to repository staff who will make the deposit on your behalf.  You should only deposit your own final versions of papers, and not the publisher-ready version, in order to adhere to copyright agreements. More information can be found in Enlighten’s How to deposit webpage.
