Consider the following:
  • Do you find yourself saying ‘yes’ when you really mean ‘no?’
  • Do you find it hard to negotiate for what you want?
  • Do you give in to other people all the time?
  • Do you find it hard to say what you really mean?

Perhaps learning to be more assertive would help.

Each course will have a maximum of 12 and minimum of 6 participants. The course teaches assertiveness techniques and offers opportunities to practise assertiveness skills within a safe, supportive group environment.

Courses are open to registered undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University of Glasgow.

At your initial appointment with the service, you can discuss if group counselling might be a good fit for you. Please note group counselling is intended for those who are not currently attending individual counselling. You may attend individual counselling before or after the group.

  • Approach issues from a range of perspectives
  • Get input, support and encouragement from people like you
  • Take risks at your own pace
  • Broaden your emotional intelligence and life experience in relation to others

Autumn - 17th October 2013 (6 weeks)

Each group of ten to twelve members will be facilitated by two counsellors – Mae and Alan.

Exam Stress Workshop for Mandarin Speakers - Monday 22 April 1000 - 1200 & Monday 29 April 1000 - 1200

Join this two day workshop to learn and share helpful techniques to deal with the stress and anxiety of the upcoming exam period.

Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Course - Tuesdays from 8 October to 26 November

Sign up for the 8 week Mindfulness course to:
  • Boost your attention & concentration
  • Gain insight to your emotions and improve your relationships
  • Become more aware of your thoughts and feelings and learn to manage them better
  • Learn practical skills helping to overcome life challenges
  • Change the way you think about experiences & reduce stress and anxiety

Mindfulness-based approach, often associated with Buddhism, Tai Chi or yoga, teaches practical skills helping to overcome life challenges.

It integrates meditative practices of bringing attention to the breath and the body during stillness and movement with current psychological understanding and knowledge.

Please note: this course is not counselling or therapy.

Mindfulness is based on the work of Jon Kabat-Zinn from the Centre for Mindfulness Medicine and Research at the University of Massachusetts.

Course schedule:
  • 8 week course - 2 hour session each week*
  • Tuesday 8 October - Tuesday 26 November, 1430 - 1630

* All day practice Saturday 16 November.

Understanding Self-Esteem - Tuesdays from 8 October to 5 November, 1400 - 1500

This five-week workshop aims to give you a better understanding of self-esteem and how it may affect you. The workshop will also introduce strategies for building up your self-esteem.
