Mission
To contribute to the University’s strategic aims regarding Student Learning and Teaching, Widening Participation, Retention, Mental Health and Well-being by providing:
- Professional consultation, counselling and other related forms of assistance to students
- Consultative support for staff of the University, parents, funding and other external agencies
- In-put to faculties and services to help improve policies and practices within the University.
Core Objectives:
- To provide a high quality professional counselling service to student members of the University community who experience educational, social, emotional or psychological problems, which inhibit academic performance and personal development.
- To assist students with the transitions into and out of higher education, to support student retention and achievement of the individual’s academic potential.
- To provide high quality professional consultation and training services to staff members of the University community, which supports them in their academic and pastoral work with students, fostering awareness of the emotional and psychological aspects of learning.
- To participate in the development of University policies and practices which foster growth towards a healthier learning, working and living environment for all.
- To continually review and evaluate practice, and pursue new initiatives which address the changing needs of the University community and maximise the use of staff expertise, while taking account of available services, which exist within the wider environment.
- To contribute to the development of best practice within the profession of counselling in Scotland.
