Consulation Service
As well as providing confidential counselling for individual students of the University, the service also offers a telephone consultation service for others who may feel concerned about the wellbeing of an individual student, including parents, other relatives and friends. Having opened up this page on our website, you may feel this applies to you.
You can contact the Service by telephone on (0141 330 4528). It may be that you simply need information about the service or some of the other sources of support within the University. If so, the secretary will more than likely be able to assist you with your enquiry.
However, if you feel particularly worried about a student's wellbeing and are at a stage when you're not quite sure how you can best be of help to them, you can ask to speak to one of the counsellors. Talking things over in confidence can help to clarify the issues and to think more objectively about how you can best be of help to the student. You need not disclose the student's identity. The counsellor can bring her or his particular experience of working with troubled students to this dialogue, as well as an understanding of the support services available within the University and externally. If a counsellor is not immediately available to talk to, you can leave your contact number with the secretary or on the answerphone, and one will get back to you as soon as possible.
If your concern is about a student who has already informed you that they are attending the Service, it is important for you to know that you will not be able to speak to the counsellor seeing that student. This is in order to safeguard the trust and impartiality of the counselling relationship and in accordance with Data Protection legislation.
The Consultation Service exists to provide you with the support you need in order to be able to think about how best you can be of help to the student in your relationship with them.
