The AV team offers a wide range of technical services to support teaching, learning and research at the University of Glasgow.

Electronic Voting System (EVS)

Electronic voting systems use keypads on handheld devices to capture student responses in lectures or seminars.
Students can express their opinions for display instantly. Data is captured and can be stored for further analysis.

Lecture recording

There are a number of software & hardware products that allow you to capture your lecture/seminar/presentation, for later playback within Moodle or elsewhere.

Video conferencing

Video conferencing allows two way interactive communication between two or more locations for meetings, seminars or lectures and can be used to facilitate teaching in multiple locations. In the University this is used for teaching simultaneously between Gilmorehill and Crichton and also for dealing wih classes for which there is not a sufficiently large lecture theatre on Campus.

    Wireless access

    Use a wireless device such as a laptop or smartphone to connect to the University network and the internet. This is available on many locations on Campus via hotspots.

    Central room booking

    Central Room bookings controls the availability and booking of appoximately 170 teaching rooms, the University's main halls & committee rooms and the booking of Electronic Voting System (EVS) Handsets.

    Moodle

    Moodle is a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) also known as a Course Management System (CMS) or a Learning Management System (LMS). It is a web-based tool that can be used to create effective online learning sites and manage learning resources.

    • Enlighten The University of Glasgow's institutional repository service for making published research material available to a wide audience.
    Mahara

    A tool to assist students in Personal Development Planning, in which material is accumulated in an individual portfolio. The material in the portfolio is owned and managed by the student who has complete control over access to it.

    Software

    A variety of computer programs are licensed for use within the University. Some are also available for home use.

      Emailing students

      The CLASS service allows you to email all the students in a selected group or groups.

      Student email addresses (campus only).

      Look up student email addresses. Available on campus or via VPN only.

      Student texting service

      One way communication to a student's registered mobile phone number via a web-based interface where there is not time for effective communication by email. You can identify students either by student Ids or by the class service.

      Sharepoint

      Student/staff portal which provides access to University IT services which also provides a collaborative environment for students and staff at the University of Glasgow.

      Digital signage

      Widespread dissemination of simple messages on the digital signage system in main public buildings on Campus.

      WebSURF

      Allows suitable authorised members of staff to view and update student records.

      PIP

      The system used to propose and approve new and changed programmes and courses and view information about current programmes and courses.
