Centre for Open Studies 2013 summer programme NEW
Running from Monday 24 June until Saturday July 6 2013, the programme will cover all aspects of Scottish history heritage and offers an exciting, in-depth and relaxed opportunity to learn about Scotland and the Scots around the world.
You can choose to take a complete module or simply pick and choose classes to suit your needs.
Week 1 (24 June - 29 June)
Module 1: The birth of Scotland and treasures of Glasgow’s museums
Learn about how this great country took shape over the centuries and combine this with an exploration of the wonderful collections and artefacts contained in Glasgow’s museums. This module also includes a trip to Edinburgh and Edinburgh Castle.
Module 2: The History of the Scots and how our ancestors lived and worked
Learn about Gaelic culture, the Celts and the Jacobites. Discover how our ancestors went about their daily lives all those centuries ago. This module includes trips to Stirling Castle and the picturesque and historic Trossachs as well as visits to the People’s Palace and Summerlee Industrial Museum
Week 2 (1 July - 6 July)
Module 3: Beyond our Borders – Scotland’s influence across the world
From Burns to William Wallace, Mary Queen of Scots to David Livingston, get the lowdown on these iconic figures. Also discover Scotland’s influence on everything from American politics, temperance and prohibition to trams. Includes a day trip to historic Linlithgow Palace and its medieval remains.
