Club 21 Placement Opportunities are normally advertised from September to April/May. Placements will be advertised in the following way:
- Via your academic department
- On this website- please see Current Club 21 Placement Opportunities.
- Via Facebook and Twitter- http://www.facebook.com/GUCareersClub21 and @GUClub21
To Apply
1. Please type into the Club 21 application form. Please note that we require application forms to be typed or word processed. There are Club 21 Guidance Notes and our guide The Personal Statement- Getting it Right available to help you with the completion of your application form- please read these before completing your application. Please also note that we are unable to check your Club 21 Application Form for you- if you require any advice on completion of the form, or on constructing an effective CV, please ensure that you contact us well in advance of the placement closing date, as you will not be permitted to edit your documents after submitting them.
2. When you have completed your application, please return 2 copies of your application form and 2 copies of your CV to the Careers Service, The Fraser Building, 65 Hillhead Street, Glasgow (opposite the University Library). Applications should be put into the blue postbox marked ' Careers Club 21 Applications' which is opposite the Student Services Enquiry Desk on Level 2. When depositing your application form into the blue postbox, please ensure that you post it into the box marked 'Careers Club 21 Applications', as Club 21 does not have access to the other postboxes.
3. Please note that email applications will NOT be accepted except in cases where the applicant is currently taking part in an Erasmus or related programme and is currently studying at a university outside the UK and, for this reason, cannot reasonably be expected to hand in their application in person. If you are emailing your application for this reason, please ensure that you email it directly to Sheena McBeth (please do not use the Careers Service '@admin' general enquiries email address for this, as this may result in your application being misdirected and the deadline missed). You will always receive an email confirming receipt of your application- if you do not receive a confirmation email, please tell us. Faxed applications will not be accepted. Postal applications are accepted but must be received by the closing date (Club 21 accepts no responsibility for applications lost or delayed in the post).
4. Before submitting your application, please ensure that you specify which organisation you are applying to at the top of your application form. Some organisations may offer several placements so please be specific (note that you must apply separately for each opportunity when applying for more than one). Completed applications must be returned by the date specified on the placement advert. Late applications will not be considered. In returning your application please make sure that your application form is stapled together and that your CV is stapled if it is on more than one page. Please then use a paperclip to attach your CV to your application form.
I've applied. What now?
Selection will be based on your ability to demonstrate how you match the organisation's specified list of skills and qualities required. You will receive written confirmation of the initial decision from Club 21 (either by email or letter) within 5 working days of the closing date outlined on each placement advert. Decisions will not be made before the closing date..
If you are unsuccessful at the first stage of the application process, you can ask for feedback on your application. If your application is forwarded to your chosen employer, they will then decide whether they would like to invite you to attend an interview. Some organisations may also invite you to attend an assessment event. It is important to prepare for interviews/assessment events. It may take several weeks before you are notified of an interview or otherwise as it depends on the organisation's priorities so you must be patient. Club 21 will notify you of the employer's decision as soon as it becomes available. Candidates being called for interview will usually receive a telephone call from a member of Club 21 staff followed by an email with further details.
The Careers Service has a range of resources to help you with every stage of the application process from filling in your application form to preparing your CV to preparing for interviews and assessment centres. Please see the Careers Service Website for further details.
Please note that in submitting an application form and CV to Club 21 you are agreeing to your personal information being passed to a third party (the organisation to which you have applied). This information will only be used for the purpose of selection for a placement. In addition, a copy of your application will be held by Club 21 for a reasonable period of time.
