With all the great opportunities offered by Club 21, it seemed silly not to take advantage of getting some valuable experience at the end of my fourth year.
Throughout the whole application and interview process, up to and after securing my placement, Club 21 was a fantastic support, with really helpful guidance. I found they were really pro-active, and always alerted me to placements that were suitable for what I wanted to do in the future. They were always happy to help me with any questions that I had.
Starting my placement was really exciting, and to be in the heart of the marketing department of such a huge, influential company was great. All the staff were so friendly, and more than happy to show me what they were doing, and assign me tasks to assist them with. I was shown exactly how every section of the marketing department worked, including PR, Direct, Digital, Design, Branding and CRM, and how all the different sections interlinked to make the department function efficiently. They also assigned me long term projects that I could spend time working on and researching, helping my time management, and gaining results that were all actually implemented within the business, which felt fantastic. Gaining a strong commercial awareness was an additional bonus to being in the in-house marketing department. Holding commercial awareness is integral, especially within the economic climate, and I was really grateful to have the chance to gain that experience.
At the end of my placement, the company decided to offer me a permanent position within the marketing department. With graduates struggling so much to secure jobs after university, I couldn’t believe my luck, and said yes straight away. I think this is the most important thing about Club 21; it opens a door to opportunities that you would not have had before.
