Advertising Vacancies

ProspectsNet is our online vacancy system for employers and providers wishing to advertise vacancies and opportunities to students and graduates.

From Tuesday 19th April 2011 existing and new users must re-register or register online to access our improved vacancy service.  We hope you will find the new system easier to use.

Use of the service is free and allows you to advertise:

  • graduate jobs and traineeships for final year students and recent graduates to University of Glasgow students only or to students across the Scottish Shared Vacancies Service
  • work experience opportunities including; internships, vacation jobs, gap or year out jobs 
  • part-time or casual work opportunities
  • volunteering opportunities

Once you register you will receive an email from ProspectsNet confirming your login and password.  You can then use the "Change Password" facility under "My Details" to choose your own password.

Please take time to complete all fields to give your vacancy full search criteria to reach your target audience.  When you submit your vacancy it will be reviewed by a member of the Careers Service staff before being published.

We reserve the right to refuse to advertise a vacancy without giving a reason, and may edit your information to ensure that it has maximum impact.

Shared Vacancy Service

University of Glasgow is part of the Scottish Shared Vacancies Service.  Advertising with us is free of charge.  When advertising you can: 

  • advertise your graduate vacancy to our students; OR 
  • advertise your vacancy to all Scottish higher education institutions participating in the Shared Vacancies Services - Strathclyde, Aberdeen, Abertay, Dundee, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Glasgow Caledonian, Heriot-Watt, Stirling, St Andrews and the University of the West of Scotland

Currently the service is not open to share other types of vacancies ie. part time, voluntary and internships.

How does the Shared Vacancies Service operate?

  • this online vacancy service is operated and delivered by Graduate Prospects
  • to use the service for the first time, employers must register (generating a username and password) and read our guidelines
  • employers log-in and upload all graduate vacancy details
  • you have the opportunity to send your vacancies to your chosen university or to all participating universities - choose the appropriate box
  • we quality and compliance check vacancies before releasing onto the system

Vacancy Definitions

Graduate:

  • be permanent or fixed term opportunities
  • be full-time or part-time hours
  • have an immediate start date or a summer/autumn start
  • be UK based or overseas
  • vacancies should reflect the appropriate level of skills gained during time at university

Internships:

  • jobs which provide highly structured, graduate-level work offering a useful insight into the company's business.  Many employers use them to screen students for future graduate intakes
  • they are generally offered during vacation periods

Vacation jobs in the UK and abroad:

  • jobs can be full-time or part-time
  • we welcome vacancies from employers all over teh UK and beyond.  Many students are keen to explore new locations during the summer
  • if your vacancy if from outside the central Scotland area, it is helpful to give information in your job advert about whether you can assist in finding accommodation
  • if you vacancy is outside the UK, it is essential to give a statement of wages for the student in addition to clarifying the cost of the following details: accommodation, travel insurance, health insurance, travel to the country, local travel costs, visa costs (if required).  If you provide assistance with any of the above please state this on your advert

Part-time/Casual Work:

  • we encourage opportunities which develop skills at all levels ranging from bar work to business development projects
  • during semester we advertise vacancies of up to a maximum of 15 hours per week
  • during Christmas, Easter and Summer vacations vacancies can be full-time or part-time
