Records retention schedule
Records are vital to the University as they provide evidence of its business transactions, organisational structure, decisions, policies, and procedures. Effective records management ensures that unnecessary records are systematically destroyed whereas records of ongoing value are preserved.
Records and Information Management Services (part of the Data Protection and Freedom of Information Office) have a specific responsibility for the provision of guidelines on the retention of records in every format that must be kept for fiscal, legal or administrative reasons.
Before the University Records Centre can accept your records there are retention-scheduling procedures that must be followed. If your records are not already covered by an approved retention schedule and you wish to transfer records to the Records Centre for an agreed storage period, please contact the Records and Information Management Service who will be able to draw up a schedule for your department.
Further guidance on records retention and general records management issues can be accessed at the Records and Information Management Services website.
