Sunday 22nd June 2008

2008 London Burns Supper

The first London Burns Supper took place in the Caledonian Club in Belgravia on Friday 1 February 2008.  105 alumni and friends turned out for this very special event.

As ever, the crowd enjoyed Clark McGinn's very entertaining address to the haggis and toast to the immortal memory.  For the first time at any alumni Burns supper we enjoyed the vocal talents of Kirsteen McCue who dazzled the audience with her rendition of a number of Burns songs.

A tremendous night was had by all which was probably aided by the record breaking amount of wine drank at any alumni event.  113 bottles consumed!  We very much look forward to next year.

2007 Doggy Dawdle

24th June 2007

It wasn't exactly flaming June, when the second annual Doggy Dawdle on behalf of our campaign to build a new Small Animal Hospital at the Vet School, took place.  In fact, it was sometimes hard to see the route through the driving rain! However, around 210 hardy souls donned raincoats, wellies and umbrellas and, walking 103 dogs, showed true spirit despite the weather.

One participant was symbolic of why the walk was taking place. Harvey, a beautiful year-old labrador came out for a short walk from the Small Animal Hospital, where he has been an in-patient for four months after being run over by a taxi.  He was expert at managing his doggy wheelchair, was full of life and eager to make friends with all the other dogs.
