These are the
largest residences the University of Glasgow owns, being home to
1,150 students each with their own single study bedroom. There are
two types of accommodation: student hostel units and self-contained
The student hostels are self-catering and consist of ten or
twelve single rooms, each unit sharing an equipped kitchen. All
first year students will normally be allocated places in a student
hostel unit, unless demand has outstripped supply. The self-contained
flats (also self-catering) house four or five students in single
rooms, sharing a kitchen/diner area. The facilities available
to the students are comprehensive, including common room, TV room,
and computer cluster. In addition, all rooms are fitted with data
& telephone points.
Murano Street also has the additional facility of a medical centre
within the main building.
Bed linen is provided but students are expected to supply their
own crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils.
is about 1.25 miles from the University. It takes twenty-five
minutes to walk, via the specially built footbridge over the Forth
and Clyde Canal, and Maryhill Road.
