Research interests

I am using the bovine follicle wave model (Biol Reprod 2001, 64:839-848; Reproduction 2002, 124:531-541) to try and elucidate the endocrine, intra-ovarian and cellular mechanisms which are responsible for 1) selection of a single dominant follicle in monovulatory species (Reproduction 2007, in press), 2) its subsequent physiological differentiation to ovulation (Biol Reprod 2006, 74:1051-1059), and 3) the relationship between function of the preovulatory follicle and the quality of its oocyte. Understanding such mechanisms will enhance our ability to test for and investigate the pathophysiology of anovulation or cystic degeneration, as well as reduced conception rates following ovulation of abnormal dominant follicles.
