Maria Ortega

Maria OrtegaMaria attended the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Zaragoza in Spain and graduated in 2004. Following veterinary school she performed a Master of Science in Anaesthesia and then went to train at the University of Gent (Belgium) and at the University of Cambridge (UK).

From 2006 to 2007 Maria was a visiting intern at the Neurology Service of the Ontario Veterinary College (Canada) under the supervision of Dr. Roberto Poma DMV, DVSc, Dipl ACVIM-Neurology. During this time Maria developed a special interest in veterinary neurology-neurosurgery and a desire to acquire a deeper knowledge in this specialty. From 1 May 2007 to 30 April 2008 she completed an Internship at the Veterinary Teaching Hospital of the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) under the supervision of Dr. Xavier Roura DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVIM-CA. Her desire to improve her knowledge in veterinary neurology lead her to do two months externship at the Neurology Service of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital in the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain) under the supervision of Dr. Sonia Añor (DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVN, Dipl ACVIM Neurology) and to visit the Animal Health Trust (UK) under the supervision of Dr. Luisa De Risio (DVM, PhD, Dipl ECVN, MRCVS) during the 6 weeks. Maria is currently a Resident in Neurology having joined the University of Glasgow in July 2009. Her main research interests include seizure pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment, and brain tumours.
