Biography
Cian joined the Politics in 2007 as a lecturer in Politics. He completed his PhD in 2006 at the University of Wales, Aberystwyth. Prior to this he studied at the University of Limerick, Dalhousie University, and the University of Oslo. Cian’s first book, The Renegotiation of the Just War Tradition was published in 2008. He has an edited volume (with Anthony F. Lang, Jr., and John Williams), Just War: Authority, Tradition, Practice, forthcoming in Spring 2013 with Georgetown University Press. He has also published a number of articles on the ethics of war, contributing to Ethics & International Affairs, the European Journal of Political Theory, The Cambridge Review of International Affairs, International Relations, the Journal of Military Ethics, the Journal of International Political Theory, and Millennium: Journal of International Studies. Cian was the Snell Exchange Fellow to Balliol College, Oxford for Trinity Term 2010, and was recently appointed a fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh Young Academy. Cian co-convenes the Glasgow Global Security Network, and is currently conducting research on the ancient Greek precursors to the just war tradition.
