Election Specials

Voting is one of the most conspicuous ways in which the citizen engages in the matter of politics.  The pattern of voting across the world’s liberal democracies has been one of a general decline in electoral turnout since the 1940s and, perhaps a direct cause of this decline, a lessening in party loyalty among the electorate (what is known political partisanship).  We seem no longer to be sure who we might want to vote for or even whether we want to vote!

Since these questions are central to the political aspects of citizenship, the Stevenson Trust for Citizenship will hold ‘election specials’ at the time of the main parliamentary elections (ie, for Holyrood and Westminster).  The format for these may vary but will typically involve round-table discussion and/or debate.

These one-off election specials will be open to the general public as well as to staff and students of the University.  Details will be published here and you will also find details of previous events.
