International symposium – The Lisbon Treaty and the Future of the European Union, 6-7 December 2007, University of Glasgow

An international symposium on ‘The Lisbon Treaty and the Future of the European Union’, organized by Maurizio Carbone (University of Glasgow), was held 6-7 December 2007 at the University of Glasgow. The symposium, which brought together some of the finest scholars in the fields of European politics and European Union studies, examined the domestics politics of European integration, from the rejection of the Constitution by the French and Dutch Voters to the agreement of the Lisbon Treaty during the German Presidency. Presenters analyses how key Member States reacted to the ‘EU constitutional impasse’, how domestic actors influenced the debate at the national level, how these positions were transferred to the EU negotiating table and what strategies the various national governments used to defend their interests or simply to pursue the European integration project.
