Prospects for Conflict Transformation? Non-violence and civil society organisations in Israel and Palestine
The aim of this project is to contribute to empirical and theoretical knowledge of non-violence and conflict transformation in situations of protracted conflict, namely the Israel-Palestine conflict. The project will gather qualitative data on the understanding, role and impact of concepts of empathy and dialogue on the grassroots experiences of those living in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories. Key questions which will be explored include how individuals and communities experience and articulate empathic processes, and how these contribute to existing individual, collective and institutional narratives of conflict, resistance, and transformation. The project will contribute an innovative perspective to debates on conflict transformation and practices of non-violence in international politics more broadly.
