Social and International Theory

This research cluster reflects and advances primary academic emphases of current staff in Politics, focussing mainly on theoretical questions on international political order.

We seek to foster high quality, original, theoretical research on:

  • international conflict
  • international ethics
  • global governance
  • legitimacy in international politics
  • the construction of international society
  • international political sociology
  • and other fields of related interest

We have close links with the Transformation research cluster, and aim to foster links with other clusters, and to offer theoretical structures that would facilitate and supplement more empirical work in other clusters.

Members of the cluster generate at least one external research funding application in each academic year.

Seminars & meetings

We organise a Politics seminar each semester, and the members of the cluster meet once a month. We also hold smaller group meeting to discuss matters of common interest including early versions of academic papers and grant applications.
