WELCOME - to the Knowledge Exchange pages for the School of Social and Political Sciences. The aim of this site is to tell you about Knowledge Exchange, what's going on in the School in terms of Knowledge Exchange activities and provide you with information to assist you in developing your KE practices.

What is Knowledge Exchange?

Knowledge exchange is the two-way flow of ideas, expertise and people between the research base in the University and wider users in society.

The role of the KE team is to connect social science researchers to non-academic users including public policy makers and practitioners, to increase research collaboration and ensure research informs decisions about public policy and professional practice.

In terms of the School of Social and Political Sciences, this means more emphasis on engagement and collaborative working with research users, and helping to make the theoretical, methodological and empirical work undertaken in the School as accessible and relevant as possible in addressing and influencing current and future economic, social and political challenges at every level, from local to global.

What we do

Our aim is to promote  the exchange of knowledge, ideas and experience with the ultimate aim of influencing POLICY & PRACTICE. We can:

  • identify new engagement opportunities and help academics engage effectively;
  • facilitate connections to new and relevant organisations/public policy practitioners;
  • offer advice on effective communication strategies and organising events;
  • identify and advise on funding opportunities;
  • provide assistance in completing IMPACT statements in grant application/research bids and on impact implementation plans where applications have been successful;
  • arrange/facilitate work exchange opportunities.
