"What first attracted me to the Sociology Department of Glasgow University was its excellent Masters programme, taught by important figures of contemporary sociological and social theory and the support, encouragement and help of the staff. The Masters programme… provided the ideal intellectual environment and the scientific tools for my subsequent PhD research."

Social Research Methods
We offer a range of Masters degrees which combine the study of a particular subject with advanced training in research methods. These MRes degrees are designed for people who wish to progress to a PhD or to work as a social researcher in a particular field. All are recognised by the ESRC as meeting their research training requirements.
Studying on these programmes gives you access to an enormous range of expertise. Methods courses are delivered by the College of Social Sciences Graduate School. You benefit by being taught research methods by academics who are specialists in particular approaches. At the same time, subject courses are taught by leading experts in their field.
