Danilo Ferreira de Lima, a PhD student in the Particle Physics Experiment (PPE) Group, has won the 2012 Institute of Physics (IoP) High Energy Particle Physics (HEPP) Poster Prize.

ATLAS and CMS experiments announce news of Higgs search ~ 13 December 2011
In a seminar held at CERN today, the ATLAS and CMS experiments presented the status of their searches for the Standard Model Higgs boson.
University takes School groups to CERN ~ June 2011

MPI@LHC2010 ~ The 2nd International Workshop on Multiple Partonic Interactions at the LHC
The MPI Workshop took place at Glasgow, Scotland, from 29 Nov - 3 Dec 2010. The aim of this workshop on Multiple Partonic Interactions (MPI) at the LHC was to raise the profile of MPI studies, summarising the legacy from the older phenomenology at hadronic colliders and reviewing the early results from the LHC.

This day-long event is held annually in the Kelvin Building at the University of Glasgow. It allows students going into 6th year the opportunity to experience some of the excitement of research in a rapidly-developing field, with hands-on sessions, led by experts working at CERN and Fermilab.

Dr Chris Parkes wins IoP HEPP Group Prize ~ 7 April 2010

Prize for Glasgow student's work at CERN
Marco Gersabeck, a Scottish University Physics Alliance (SUPA) PhD student at the University of Glasgow has been awarded the 2009 John G Rutherglen Prize. Marco won the prize for his work on the LHCb experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN.

LHC Switch-on ~ 'Red Button Day' ~ 10 September 2008
On 10th September 2008 the world's biggest scientific experiment, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) was switched on at CERN. The LHC is the most powerful particle accelerator ever built by man and will seek answers to some of the most fundamental mysteries of our Universe.
The 8th International Conference on Position Sensitive Detectors (PSD8)
The PSD8 Conference was held in Glasgow, from the 1st to the 5th of September 2008. The conference, which is held every three years, explored recent scientific and technical developments of position-sensitive radiation detector systems.
First Particles in LHC seen at LHCb experiment ~ 22 August 2008
At 17:30 on Friday 22 August 2008 LHCb, one of the four LHC experiments, reconstructed in its Vertex Locator (VELO) the first particles from the LHC. The observation was made during a synchronisation test of the accelerator when the particles passed through a short section of the new 27km long LHC accelerator.
SaxonFest: A Celebration @ Glasgow University ~ 30 May 2008

Big Bang Launch @ Glasgow Science Centre (SECC) ~ 2 May 2008
The `Big Bang’ touring exhibition was launched on Friday May 2nd to an audience of over one hundred by Professor David Saxon OBE, Dean of the Physical Sciences Faculty. The exhibition describes, in terms accessible to the public, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) project currently nearing completion at CERN, Geneva.
ATLAS Overview Week
The PPE Group hosted the ATLAS Overview Week at Glasgow University - 9-13 July 2007. The aim of the ATLAS Overview week was to provide a comprehensive scope of the status and activities of the international ATLAS collaboration.
