Athena SWAN Silver Award to the School of Physics and Astronomy

At an awards ceremony at the Royal Society of Edinburgh, Dr Ian MacLaren received the Athena SWAN Silver award on behalf of the School of Physics and Astronomy.  Athena SWAN exists to promote gender equality in STEMM subject departments and at institutional level and awards are given to recognise good practice and significant progress in this area.  The Silver award to the School of Physics and Astronomy recognises particular progress in developing an understanding the issues and promoting improved procedures, and the contribution made by the postgraduate student and postdoctaral RA fora was cited as particularly noteworthy.  The submission for the Silver award resulted from the work of a committee led by Dr Lyndsay Fletcher and also comprising the following current and former members Dr Marina Battaglia, Dr Morag Casey, Ms Joanna Cholewa, Ms Rebecca Douglas, Dr Erin MacDonald, Dr Ian MacLaren, Dr Alexander Russell.
