Stevenson Scholarships in Italian

  • 1) Funding for a PhD in Italian for tuition and maintenance to the value of a total of £10,000 per annum for three years only;
  • 2) Payment of fees for one year for either an MPhil in Italian (research) or an MLitt (taught) in European Studies or an MSc (taught) in Translations Studies with specialisation in Italian culture or language.

Complete the SMLC Scholarship app form 2012-13 and return as directed by 29 February 2012.

Madeleine Albright Scholarship in Czech

  • Up to 4 years tuition and maintenance for a PhD in Czech Studies to a total of 60,000 Euros over the period of the entire award.

The successful candidate will undertake PhD research in an area of Czech Studies such as history, literature, politics, media or cinematography. Current research areas within Czech Studies in SMLC concentrate primarily on social self-examination and myth-making in Czechoslovakia/the Czech Republic since 1989 and on contemporary Czech media, society and politics. There is also expertise in the area of  Czech literature published in the diaspora during the times of the communist regime in 1948-1989. Although research proposals are welcome in all these areas, proposals from other areas of study relating to the Czech Republic, will be also considered.

SMLC Scholarships

  • Four scholarships to the value of £2,500 each for either of the one-year postgraduate taught programmes offered by SMLC: MLitt in European Studies: Cultures, Societies and Languages or the MSc in Translation Studies: Translation & Professional Practice.
