Breaking Bad News Well Study


The Burdett Trust for Nursing is funding a study ‘Breaking Bad News Well in Progressive Neurological Conditions’. The study is being conducted by Professor LN Smith, Dr Lorna Paul, Dr D. Grosset and Kudzai Chikwanda.
The study explores the communication of a diagnosis of a progressive neurological condition. Eligible participants are patients with a progressive neurological condition for example; Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease and their relatives/ significant others who were with them at the time of diagnosis.
Participants, to be eligible for the study must be:
• 18 years of age and above
• Within 3-8 months of receiving a diagnosis of a progressive neurological condition
• Living within Glasgow and Scotland’s Central belt
• Relatives/ significant others of patients who were present at the time of diagnosis.
Participation involves an interview no longer than 45 minutes.
