Paediatric Medical Physics
Research and development in paediatric medical physics is undertaken in Yorkhill NHS Trust, The Queen Mother's Hospital and the Princess Royal Maternity hospital.
Present research projects are:
Does vitamin A supplementation improve retinal function in very low birth weight infants?
This project is funded by the Chief Scientist Office, Scottish Executive.
Investigation of visual evoked potentials in neonates at risk of neonatal abstinence syndrome.
Motion correction of nuclear medicine images, with particular relevance to children.
Investigation of auditory steady-state responses in newborn infants.
Non-invasive measurement of liver iron concentration in patients receiving regular blood transfusions by means of Magnetic Resonance Imaging.
Most recent research projects:
Assessment of contrast sensitivity in infants and children with neurological impairment: the development and implementation of a novel test using visual evoked potentials.
This project was funded by the Chief Scientist Office, Scottish Executive, Grant Number CZB/4/247.
Development of objective methods of assessing vision in children with visual impairment due to cerebral palsy and other causes.
