Research Interests

The heart of my research is category theory. I used to mainly do higher category theory, and I wrote the first book on the subject: Higher Operads, Higher Categories. These days I spend most of my time thinking about notions of size. "Size" includes invariants such as Euler characteristic, entropy, cardinality, and a new invariant of metric spaces called magnitude. I have been applying this work in other areas: most recently, metric geometry, integral geometry, and the quantification of biological diversity.
