Joseph Cousins awarded the British Liquid Crystal Society Young Scientist Award

Tuesday 29th March, 2022

Many congratulations to Dr Joseph Cousins (Research Assistant in the School of Maths & Stats), who has been awarded the British Liquid Crystal Society Young Scientist Award for 2022. The award is for Joseph’s work on the mathematical modelling and analysis of industrial manufacturing of liquid crystal displays. Joseph was awarded his PhD in 2021, a CASE award project with Merck Chemicals supervised by Prof. Stephen Wilson and Dr Brian Duffy at Strathclyde, and has since started an EPSRC-funded project on liquid crystal free surfaces, jointly held at Strathclyde and Glasgow, and in collaboration with experimentalists in Nottingham Trent University.

The BLCS Young Scientist Award is normally presented annually for significant research contributions to the field of liquid crystals. The Award is open equally to those from academic and industrial backgrounds and from any scientific discipline. Joseph will receive the Award and give a presentation of the work that forms the basis for the Award at the Annual Conference of the BLCS in Bristol in April.
