Celebrating 50 years of Statistics at Glasgow

On September 10th, the 50th anniversary of the appointment of the first chair in Statistics in The University of Glasgow was celebrated. Around 100 Statistics graduates, plus former and present staff, greatly enjoyed catching up with one another. Participants included three of the five staff from 1966, the first (Economics and) Statistics graduate, two of the first Honours graduates from the single Statistics degree and the first PhD student (recently retired as President of NUI Galway). This was a very enjoyable evening and, with graduates now in a huge variety of positions, a clear demonstration of the value of Statistics in the modern world.
