Abstract

(Lunch with the speaker will be at One A The Square, leaving from the school front foyer at 12.45.)

We present a mixed FE-formulation for the static mechanical boundary value problem of a slightly compressible finite elastic solid reinforced by one- or two, possibly stiff, fibre families. It is based on splitting both the deformation and the stress field into uniaxial stretches and tensions along the preferred directions, and into complementary deformations and stresses, respectively. These stretches and tensions are the auxiliary fields approximated separately, besides the displacements. The resulting nonlinear mixed formulations for one- and two-family reinforcement are solved with the Newton-Raphson procedure. We demonstrate application of error estimation and adaptivity.
