Slow-fast analysis for excitable system

Abstract

Cardiac electrophysiology model is a typical example of an excitable system. The computational complexity of cardiac models lies not only in the complexity of the heart as a system but also in the essential stiffness of cardiac equations. A standard approach is to treat small parameters, responsible for such stiffness, using asymptotic rather than numerical methods. According to the classical Tikhonov-Pontryagin theorem, the dynamic variables of the particular system can be separated into 'slow' and 'fast' manifolds. In this talk, I shall describe the procedures of this asymptotic method and then implement it on a simple electrophysiology model, the so-called McKean model.
