Quasi-representations, surface groups and almost-flat bundles

We discuss how almost-multiplicative maps ("quasi-representations") of

a group may be used to study associated K-theory groups. We hope to

cover two topics: first, explicit computations that can be carried out

for fundamental groups of orientable surfaces; and second, a

correspondence between quasi-representations and almost-flat bundles

that allows one to "lift" homomorphisms of the K_0-group of the group

C*-algebra to quasi-representations under suitable hypothesis. This

is joint work with Marius Dadarlat.
