Abstract

The celebrated Jones polynomial is an invariant for a link in the real space of dimension 3. It is a Laurent polynomial depending only in the isotopy class of the link. The Jones polynomial was a breakthrough discovery in mathematics for which Vaughan Jones won the Fields Medal in 1990. This polynomial has connections with a variety of areas in mathematics as Quantum Field Theory, Statistical Mechanics and Lie algebras. During this talk we will discuss the original construction of this polynomial.
