Abstract

The palindromic automorphism group of a free group is the group of automorphisms that take each member of some fixed free basis to a word that reads the same backwards as forwards. In this talk, we will discuss some elementary properties of palindromes and palindromic automorphisms, and introduce a new complex on which the palindromic automorphism group acts. In particular, we will discuss how the action on this complex can be used to find a generating set for the so-called palindromic Torelli group.
