Abstract
The Weil (or metaplectic, or oscillator) representation is a projective representation of the symplectic group that is important in many different contexts. The main goal of this talk is to give an introduction to this representation, emphasising a point of view that seem to me particularly natural. The secondary goal is to present some results motivated by character lifting between symplectic and orthogonal groups.
