Abstract

Brouwer's fixed point theorem says that any continuous function from a finite-dimensional closed ball to itself must fix some point of the ball. I will try to explain why this is interesting, and will give a lovely combinatorial proof of the two-dimensional case. The talk will be very basic; I will only assume a couple facts about sequences and continuous functions.
