A symplectic topologist trying to understand algebraic K-theory

Abstract

I will give a talk about a recent paper on arXiv jointly written with T. Dyckerhoff and G. Jasso. We show that partially wrapped Fukaya category of the d-fold symmetric product of a 2-dimensional disk with stops on its boundary can be assembled into simplicial categories giving rise to Waldhausen's construction of the K-theory spectrum. Fancy words aside, this is a story about arcs on a disk but suitably designed so that we can add some fancy to it. This may or may not be considered as an entry point for surface topologists to algebraic K-theory.
