Abstract

C*-algebras can be thought of as noncommutative topological spaces and therefore some notions in C*-algebras use topological intuition adapted to a noncommutative setting. We will focus on an equivalent of topological covering dimension, called the nuclear dimension. Finiteness of nuclear dimension plays a key role in the classification programme of C*-algebras. In this talk, we will show an approach to proving that the Cuntz Toeplitz algebra has nuclear dimension one. The techniques we will use demonstrate a phenomenon known as dimension reduction in noncommutative topology.
