Abstract

Direct numerical simulations of excitable waves in detailed models of cardiac electrical activity are prohibitatively expensive due to the wide range of scales that must be retained. For example, the scale of a typical cardiac action potential upstroke is orders of magnitude shorter than the scales of the plateau and recovery. We will investigate empirically the fitness and efficiency of the heterogeneous multiscale method for application to cardiac electrophysiology model.
