Professor William Martin (Professor of Cardiovascular Pharmacology, Adviser of Studies). My research interests lie in the role played by the endothelium in controlling vascular tone, particularly through release of the vasodilators, nitric oxide and endothelium-derived hyperpolarising factor (EDHF). They also extend into the functions of nitric oxide released as a neurotransmitter from certain peripheral autonomic (nitrergic) nerves.
I teach pharmacology and physiology to science and medical students. I am also Chair of the College of Medicine, Veterinary Medicine & Life Sciences Ethics Committee for Non-Clinical Research Involving Humans
