Routine digital transmission and scanning electron microscopy for morphological analyses on a wide range of biological and materials specimens are available in this laboratory (120kV Zeiss 912 energy filtering TEM and low kV SEM with cryoSEM capabilities). Members of the School of Life Sciences are provided with a limited technical service which is supplemented by instrument and technique training for postgrads on a "self-help" basis. This is also offered to other researchers in the University and, by arrangement, to workers in other academic institutions.
The facility has a range of ultramicrotomes and cryopreparation instrumentation for state-of-the-art specimen preparation in addition to conventional biological specimen processing options. Digital light microscopy is available on a Zeiss Axioskop with optional colour and b&w digital cameras and 5x - 100x objectives for histological or basic fluorescence imaging applications.
The facility also undertakes appropriate contract research and sample evaluations for commercial organisations.
