Research in public law

The study of public law has a long and distinguished history at the University stretching back to John Millar, Regius Professor of Law at the University from 1761 to 1800 and a substantial figure in the Scottish Enlightenment.

Over the last few years our public lawyers and PhD students have carried out research into constitutional theory, human rights, administrative law and administrative justice, immigration law and EU law. Public law colleagues were particularly active in research and public engagement with the ‘Scottish Question’ in the lead up to independence referendum and continue to engage with the question of the constitutional futures of Scotland, the UK and the European Union.
