The Solway Centre is launched

Centre director, Valentina Bold, at the Solway Centre launchOver 100 people attended the launch of the Solway Centre, coming from across Dumfries and Gallloway, from Stranraer to Langholm, and representing a variety of organisations and bodies, from Council, to Parliament, to heritage societies, museums and natural heritage agencies. 

Chaired by Professor John Briggs, nine Centre members spoke about their vision for the future. Professor Anne Anderson made the vote of thanks, drawing particular attention to the role of the Head of School, Professor David Clark, in bringing the centre into being. 

The centre director, Valentina Bold, delivered the key Solway Centre launch speech.

Dr Bold told the attendees, 'We believe The Solway Centre for Environment and Culture is based in a special place, at a timely moment, and with the right people to make something distinctive.'

Member of the Solway Centre assembled as a group
