International Office: meet us in your country

Applied learning

We teach these subjects at the Dumfries Campus so that students can benefit from this unique location close to field study sites and relevant work placement providers.

You will have close links to our research centres:

Solway Centre for Environment & Culture

Crichton Institute (partnership research)

Your learning will include a practical element, drawing on the stunning and diverse 'outdoor classroom' in the surrounding region. This might include field visits to areas of cultural or environmental interest, guest speakers from local, national or international organisations, or an integral work experience placement.

Dumfries & Galloway is home to a range of cultural sites, conservation organisations, resources for tourism and recreation, and renewable energy interests. Here are just some of the organisations and companies active in the local area:

UNESCO Galloway & Southern Ayrshire Biosphere Reserve

Scottish Natural Heritage

National Trust for Scotland

Forestry Commission Scotland

Galloway Forest Dark Sky Park

Scotland's Rural University College
